The departmend was found in 1965 by academician A.N. Belozersky headed it till 1972; after his death departmend was leaded by prof A.S.Antonov till 2008. After his death prof. Alexey V. Troitsky became chief. Research areas Molecular phylogenetics and evolutionary genomics of various groups of plants and animals. Research results Pointed since 2010 New data on molecular phylogenetics, evolutionary genomics and molecular biogeographics of various plants were obtained. Morphological traits distribution was compared with molecular phylogenetic trees and reappraisals of morphological criteria of relatedness were suggestred. Hybrid origin of a liverwort Barbilophozia rubescens and a moss Podperaea baii was shown. It was shown that divergence of allopatric isolated populations of salmon fishes with different level of reproductive isolation may be well followed using expressed sequences. The correlation of reproductive isolation extension and quantity of species-specific fractions in satellite DNA is established. Close phylogenetic relatedness of of the freshwater amitochondriate amoeboflagellate Pelomyxa palustris with aerobic lobose amoebae was evident from 18S rRNA gene phylogeny. Phylogenetic analyses of combined SSU rRNA and actin sequence data for the three main groups of ‘‘Heliozoa’’ (Actinophryida, Centrohelida, and Desmothoracida) demonstrate the polyphyly of heliozoans and existence of the Rhizaria. Phylogenetic position of the enigmatic, multiflagellated protist Multicilia marina within Amoebozoa. Phylogenetic relationships of nematodes, nematomorphs, kinorhynchs, priapulids, and some other major groups of invertebrates were studied by 18S rRNA gene sequencing. Examination of the relationships among nematodes by 18S rRNA gene sequencing revealed paraphyly of the traditional Adenophorea and monophyly of a new group that may be named Chromadoria. Nucleotide sequence of Neottia nidus-avis plastid genome was determined and compared with known plastid genomes. Acceleration of substitution accumulation rate in protein coding sequences was shown. Floral transcriptome of two Fagopyrum species were sequenced. More than 15000 genes were annotated. Wide distribution of TAS3-loci of ta-siRNA in mosses and their lack in Sphagnopsida and club-mosses was demonstrated. Obtained results were published in 27 scientific articles and and were presented in 32 intra- and international conference reports. Grants and Projects 11-04-02031 “Changes in structure and function of plastid genes in flowering plants under partial or complete loss of photosynthetic activity“ 2011-2013 Collaboration Many important results were obtained in collaboration with:
Educational activities Prof. N.B.Petrov and V.V.Aleshin give a cource “Fundamentals of systematisc and phylogeny”. Prof. A.V.Troitsky gives a cource “Plant genosystematics”. Members of the department are ingaged in a practical training session on genosystematics. |
